Hello My Name Is...

Greetings. I am one of the AP Lit. and AICE General Paper teachers. In these high level classes, two important concepts will guide the instructions. The first is that the most dangerous thought is an incomplete thought. The second is to understand that the best question is not one that produces an answer. The best question is one that produces 50 more questions. These concepts and skills will help the students think deeply and carefully, for they will need to do exactly that when writing the analytical essays of the AP Lit. exam and the AICE General Paper exam.

My educational philosophy is to subordinate teaching to learning. My teaching is guided by the students' learning instead of dominating it. For example, I will encourage my students' innate curiosity with the concepts mentioned above and then simply get out of their way as they begin to apply those principles to the various aspects of AP Lit. or of the AICE General Paper.

I am a former NYC teacher with 30 plus years of teaching experience. I am also a former journalist and radio host/producer with WBAIfm in NYC. I graduated from Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. I was born in Puerto Rico, raised in NYC, and in 1989, settled down in Palm Beach County.

Some of my interest are:

  • Technology: I am a Project SMaRT ambassador. I help and train teachers with technology to bring them into 21st century teaching where one is not limited by the four walls of one’s classroom.
  • Martial arts: I have been a student of the martial arts for over 40 years. I hold the rank of 5th degree black belt in Aikido. Picture of Mr. Miranda in a fighting stance verses the Suncoast mascot
  • Bonsai: Picture of one of Mr. Miranda's Bonsai treesI take plants normally used for bushes in landscaping for example and turn them into beautiful trees in a small pot.

I have four grown sons and live in North Palm Beach. Thank you for your time and please visit my website:
