Besides a great deal of experience and expertise, Dr. Hamilton brings love and enthusiasm to her classroom. Students may work harder than ever before, and likely they will be amazed at their own capacity for excellence.
Here at Suncoast, Dr. Laura Hamilton is one of a pair of English teachers named “Dr. Hamilton,” so if you are unsure which one you need, feel free to use Dr. Laura’s maritime title. Captain Hamilton earned her captain’s license in 2009. A blue-water sailor, Capt. Hami has sailed extensively including two transatlantic voyages and several archipelagos including the Azores, the Balearic Isles, the Canary Isles, Cape Verde, and a few stops in the Caribbean. Her ship time includes cruising for up to 17 days between ports, the perfect detox when a busy mind needs to reset.
Dr. Hamilton’s higher education began in Knoxville, Tennessee, her hometown. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, graduating Magna Cum Laude. She earned her master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Lynn University. Through the generous patronage of The English Speaking Union, Dr. Hamilton studied Leisure in the Victorian Society one summer at Oxford University.
Her hobbies include gardening, nature, boating, and the arts. She loves the life she lives with a loving family and a host of pets.
Teaching in Palm Beach County since 1985, Dr. Hamilton has changed with the times, but her passion for teaching burns as strongly as it did over thirty years ago. She welcomes all communication from parents and students alike, and is looking forward to her best year ever!
